I read an interesting article yesterday about the best "30-minute suburbs" in Sydney when it comes to easy access to jobs, shopping centres, schools, and hospitals.
Commissioned by the Committee for Sydney, Accounting firm Price Waterhouse Coopers identified the suburbs that consistently provided the quickest travel time to these facilities. Unsurprising to me the Inner West dominated the top ten with six entries including the first three (Ashfield, Sydenham/Tempe & Burwood/Croydon).
The main finding was that at peak hour across Sydney the areas that had convenient railway stations were far more advantageous to live in than those that required using a motor vehicle. Pretty basic logical stuff that just confirms the fears of building more and more new roads and not enough rail.
I used to drive into the city from my Marrickville office to attend seminars, client appointments, etc. About ten years ago I started to catch the train and have never looked back. In my opinion, Sydenham is the most convenient suburban train station in all of Sydney. Just over five minutes walk from my office, you can almost always catch a train to the city in less than five minutes on three different lines. Quite often I have made it to a meeting in less than twenty-five minutes.
It just further illustrates why so many people are choosing the Inner West as their preferred place to live. To view the article in full simply click here:
