R & W Marrickville/Hurlstone Park Market Update 14.09.2019
We'll take a break from real estate this month and focus on how dynamic and changing a suburb Marrickville has become.
I was born in the area and have been selling homes here since 1997.
The initially slow but now extremely rapid metamorphosis from blue collar working class multi-cultural industrial hub of Sydney to white collar young upwardly mobile inclusive professional services-based entertainment precinct has been amazing to watch from my very unique perspective.
A perfect example of this is the fabulous new Library that has just opened up on the corner of Livingstone Road and Marrickville Road.
Initially the site of the old Marrickville Hospital, the property was acquired by the local council of the day in the early 1990s for $1.2 million - a lot of money back then!
They then proceeded to do absolutely nothing with it for the better part of 25 years.
However, we finally have what I believe is a truly world class facility. Not just a library, I urge you all to go and check it out. From the cafe, to the meeting rooms, breakout study areas, kids play area, outdoor turfed quadrangle and magnificent Pavilion Function centre there is something literally for everyone to utilise and enjoy.
It's been hard to keep up with the number of exciting things going on in the area of late. In future updates I'll feature other great businesses, eateries, coffee houses, etc that have made Marrickville their home recently as well as some long-term staples who have also moved with the times and innovated further.
If there's anything in particular you love about the area which is one of the best kept secrets please let me know and I'll cover it.
